So I'm going to talk about the flag desecration BS thats going on right now.

First, how the hell did this not make the news until AFTER it passed in the senate? And I know it has passed in the senate before. But ANY constitutional ammendment that has even the slightest chance of going through should be big news from the day the debates start. This is serious shit. And how does an ammendment to restrict freedom get 57 sponsers, when an ammendment to grant the right to vote for president to US citizens living in territories rather than states only gets 2?

Secondly, on the actual desecration. The flag is a symbol of the country. A country that, unique among all others, swears its allegiance not to a person, but to a document. A document that protects the very act of flag burning. This makes flag burning a very futile act. As the thing you are ultimately protesting, is in fact the thing keeping you out of jail. By changing things so that this protection is removed, you give the flag burners power. Now that futile act is an act that brings consequences, consequences that are a true desecration, not in destroyed flags, but in the desecration of what this country is supposed to be. Or at least what people wanted it to be once.
